Richmond Heights Real Estate - Richmond Heights Missouri MLS

Legend has it that before the Civil War a young lieutenant named Robert E. Lee, who was stationed in St. Louis with the Army Corps of Engineers, came upon land that today is known as Richmond Heights. He was struck by its beauty and remarked how much it reminded him of Richmond in his home state of Virginia. "Heights" was added later because the land is some of the highest in St. Louis County.

The city occupies part of the old Spanish land grant Gratiot League Square.

Frederick Niesen, a wealthy St. Louis real estate man, purchased land from Arman Francois Robert, the Count of Giverville (an heir to the Cabanne family) and built a large frame house at Dale and Bellevue in 1892. During the next decade other families joined him.

There are many entertainment options and attractions in and around Richmond Heights. These include those offered by Forest Park such as the St. Louis Zoo, Science Center, Art Museum and more.
